Commemoration of the Peace Treaty of Monteaperti

CorteoPace Montaperti22nd November 2015 Castelfiorentino

The historic Peace Treaty of Montaperti, signed on the 23rd November 1260 in Castelfiorentino, put a momentary end to the fighting between the Guelfi and the Ghibellini following the bloody battle of Montaperti, remembered by Dante in the Divine Comedy as “the torture and the slaughter which turned the Arbia river red”.

Every year Castelfiorentino marks the event with an historic commemoration which brings the town to life and offers an occasion for reflection on its history and traditions.
