Villa FilicajaFor over five hundred years the villa has belonged to the Counts of Filicaja. It can be found in the Montaione countryside, not far from where the Figline Castle was located. It was from there that many of the building materials for the villa and the nearby church were taken. Here, in this place surrounded by vines and olive trees, the young Michelangelo Buonarroti wrote the poem Ajone dedicated to the famous local legend. The Filicaja family whose ancestors were protagonists of the 16th Century Florentine political scene, were conquerors of Brazil and poets. The family specialised in the farming of the land and in the production of excellent wines and extra virgin olive oil.
